Nachu scandal: Sh 4 billion investors money at stake, and an elusive title deeds

A dark cloud of anxiety and corporate gridlock hangs over Kiambu County as centuries of community heritage collide with high-stakes property maneuvers, leaving close to a thousand investors and multi-generation families entangled in what has fast become the multi-billion-shilling Nachu land scandal.”

At the center of the brewing storm is the National Cooperative Housing Union (NACHU), alongside explosive revelations of executive overreach and historical land grabbing that have forced the hands of the Kiambu County Government and criminal investigators.

The Ksh 4 Billion Juja & Mugutha Standoff

What was pitched as a golden gateway to homeownership for low- and middle-income earners has deteriorated into a legal quagmire. Over the past decade, NACHU aggressively collected billions of shillings from close to 1,000 everyday investors, promising them immediate pieces of a 500-acre prime property in the Mugutha area of Juja Constituency named Riverline Ridges.

Years later, a vast majority of those buyers are left holding nothing but receipts. Investigations into NACHU’s operations reveal a massive financial breakdown: the housing union allegedly failed to fully remit the collected transaction billions to the original land property vendor, New Pillion Estates Limited. Because the balance remains unpaid, the primary title deed cannot be legally fractured, freezing the issuance of individual sub-titles.
