The Director Operations at DCI headquarters, Mr. Samson Kiptum, SAIG, has taken Senior Police Commanders through the Directorateβs investigative preparedness plan for the 2027 General Election, at a sensitisation meeting underway at the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA) in Ngong, Nairobi.
Representing the Director DCI, Mr. Kiptum briefed Regional, Formation and County Commanders on DCIβs mandate-specific approach to detecting, investigating and disrupting election-related criminal activity, with a particular focus on the profiling and crackdown of criminal gangs.

The two-day meeting, running from 29th to 30th October 2026, aims to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible 2027 General Election through proactive safety and security preparedness.
He noted that criminal gangs are among the biggest threats to a peaceful election, because they can be hired to intimidate voters, attack rallies, harass candidates and disrupt electoral processes.
Further, he noted that criminal gangs should be dismantled at the top, not just on the streets, taking commanders through the approach: map the leaders, hierarchy, financiers, hideouts and modus operandi, then act on intelligence-led, evidence-based investigations that target the people who command, recruit and finance violence.
Commanders were urged to share intelligence in real time, work as one and build early-warning systems tied to the electoral calendar, reminding them to work with communities, including Nyumba Kumi and local leaders.

To ensure a secure and fair electoral process, investigative preparedness and planning are crucial.
The DCI remains committed to proactively detecting and investigating election and electoral related offenses that could undermine public confidence and safety in the 2027 General Elections.
